Buying notes for the Indoor Carousel for Sale
Buying an indoor carousel for sale starts with the building, not with a catalogue. An indoor merry go round is not always the 16-seat atrium ride: the covered range runs from that platform up to 24 and 26-seat carousels where the hall is tall enough, and the clear height is what separates them. The questions buyers ask about an indoor ride are collected in the indoor carousel FAQ.
This page is written for the buyer with a mall atrium, a family entertainment centre, a covered theme park or a hotel hall in mind: what the property will ask for, which of the covered builds answers it, and why carousel rides in malls pay for the floor they occupy.
Indoor carousel for sale: the three numbers your venue asks about
Every covered site asks the same three questions, and they are answered on the drawing rather than on site.
What a mall carousel adds to the brief
An indoor carousel is bought twice: once by you and once by the property’s rules. These four items decide whether the ride opens on schedule.
The boundary the property expects
Most malls and shopping centres want a fence around a moving platform, even where the queue is short. The fence is quoted with the ride rather than added later.
How the drive sounds from a metre away
An upper drive keeps the mechanism in the canopy and runs quietest, which matters beside a food court. A lower drive costs less and is louder.
The lighting sells the evening trade
A carousel that looks plain at noon looks like a landmark at eight in the evening. The lighting package is part of the build.
How long the pitch lasts
A three-month promotion and a five-year tenancy are different buys. If the atrium rotates tenants, the folding model travels in and out.
Indoor merry go round models: 16 to 26 riders, chosen by clear height
Six builds cover the covered range. The ceiling decides first, then the drive, then the theme.
| Covered build | Riders | Platform and height | Transmission and power | Shipping | Price band |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Animal theme carousel | 16 | 6 m, 5.5 m high | Imitation top drive, 380 V, 5 kW | 1 x 20GP, about 2,500 kg | From US$12,400 |
| 16-seat carousel, upper drive | 16 | 6 m, 5.5 m high | Upper drive in the canopy, 380 V, 5 kW | 1 x 20GP, about 2,500 kg | From US$33,250 |
| Ocean theme carousel | 16 or 24 | 8 m, 5.5 m high | Imitation top drive or upper drive, up to 10 kW | 1 x 40HQ, about 4,800 kg | US$22,000 – 32,900 |
| Longines carousel | 24 | 8.5 m, 5.5 m high | Imitation top drive or upper drive, 5 kW | 1 x 40HQ, about 4,800 kg | US$24,650 – 45,200 |
| Dream Star carousel | 26 | 8.5 m, 5.5 m high | Lower drive, 380 V, 5 kW | 1 x 40HQ, about 7,300 kg | From US$45,000 |
| IP character carousel – duck, rabbit or circus theme | 16 | 7.5 m, 7.3 m high | Upper drive, 380 V, 3 to 6 kW | 1 x 40HQ, about 3,000 kg | From US$28,700 |
The 6 m platform is the volume answer for a shopping centre atrium: it fits under a 6 m ceiling and runs all trading hours on 5 kW. The 8 m and 8.5 m platforms carry 24 to 26 riders and still stand 5.5 m tall, so a two-storey void usually takes them without changing the ride itself. The IP character builds stand 7.3 m, which makes them a different brief – check the ceiling and the sprinkler line before committing to the theme. The full carousel model range puts the covered builds next to the outdoor and two-level models if you are still comparing.
Why a mall carousel earns on dwell time
A mall carousel ride does not run on the same economics as a thrill ride, which is why indoor amusement rides for sale are usually bought against a fixed opening date and a footfall estimate rather than a ticket price. It earns from families who stay longer: the parent rides with the child, the group photographs the lighting, and the carousel becomes the meeting point of the floor. Where the pitch is a short promotion rather than a permanent ride, the carnival carousel is quoted for exactly that, and a mall horse ride set up for a season can be moved when the tenancy ends. That is why the seating and the fence matter as much as the drive – a comfortable boarding line keeps the ride busy when the mall is busy, and why an indoor carousel for kids doubles as the meeting point for the whole family.

How an indoor carousel is installed in the access window
An indoor carousel arrives in one container and is assembled inside the access window the property gives you. The order of work is fixed, and it is the part of the project malls ask about first. An indoor project in Saudi Arabia is written up in the ICE LAND case study, including the ride mix and the site constraints.
- Deliver into the window
The container arrives, the atrium is closed to visitors, and the sections move to the platform position along the agreed route.
- Set the base and the platform
The base is levelled and the turntable assembled in place, with the floor protected as agreed with the property.
- Assemble the canopy and the figures
Canopy, cornice, horses and carriages are fitted and the lighting connected. This is the stage that decides how the ride looks in the evening.
- Test run and handover
The ride is run in the hall, the electrical checks are signed off and the manual and spare list are handed to your operator.

Indoor carousel solutions by venue
A mall atrium is not the only covered site that carries a carousel. What changes from site to site is the clear height, the boarding line, the fence and the hours the venue keeps.
| Indoor scenario | Build that fits | Property package we add | Why it works there |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mall atrium | 16-seat carousel, imitation top drive, 6 m platform | Fence, quiet drive option, panel loading outside trading hours | Fits under a 6 m ceiling and runs all trading hours on 5 kW |
| Family entertainment centre | 16-seat carousel with fence | Fence line, marked queue, cycle plan for short sessions | Keep the queue off the walkway and the ride turning all evening |
| Supermarket or hypermarket entrance | 16-seat carousel, animal figure set | Fence, floor protection plan, entrance-route layout | Placement on the entrance route turns a shopping trip into a stop for families |
| Hotel lobby, resort or casino hall | 16-seat carousel, upper drive | Quiet drive, warm lighting, decorative fence | The quiet drive keeps the ride beside seating and reception without noise |
| Two-storey void or tall atrium | 24 or 26-seat carousel, 8 m or 8.5 m platform | Height survey, suspended lighting plan, wider boarding zone | The extra height carries a bigger platform, so the ride earns more per trading hour |
| Indoor theme park or covered ride hall | 24-seat carousel on an 8 m platform | Themed finish, queue rails, lighting show | More capacity where the hall is tall enough and the queue is long |
| IP-themed indoor zone | 16-seat duck, rabbit or circus character carousel, 7.3 m tall | Custom figure set, taller canopy clearance, matching fence | The characters carry the zone, and the figure set is ordered with the ride |
| Kids’ party or play venue | 16-seat children’s carousel | Boarding platform, fence, low-speed setting | Boarding heights and figure sizes scaled for young riders |
| Covered market or exhibition hall | 16-seat carousel with a themed decoration package | Fast assembly plan, fence, lighting package | The ride becomes the landmark of a temporary event and moves on afterwards |
| Atrium with a rotating tenancy | Folding carousel, 16-seat portable model | Folding frame, container plan, 220 V supply check | Folds to 2.65 x 3.9 m and travels on one trailer between sites |
| Food court or cinema concourse | 16-seat carousel, upper drive | Quiet drive, evening lighting package, fence | Quiet operation and a lighting package that lifts the whole floor |
The deciding number indoors is the clear height, and the second is the electrical supply. Where both are generous the 8.5 m platform earns more per hour; where the ceiling is close, the 6 m platform with the value drive is the honest recommendation.
Indoor carousel property approval and handover checklist
Before placing the order, agree the documents and site conditions that the mall, landlord or local authority will review. These items belong in the project drawing rather than in a conversation after the container arrives.
- Finished clear height: equipment height plus the lifting stroke, beams, signage, lighting and sprinkler clearance.
- Floor loading and protection: base layout, load information, finished-floor protection and the route used during assembly.
- Power connection: voltage, total connected power, isolator position, cable route and access for the operator and maintenance team.
- Means of escape and boundary: fence line, boarding gate, queue, exits and fire-equipment clearance agreed with the property.
- Access window: delivery, unloading, lifting route and the hours allowed for assembly and testing.
- Noise and operation: drive choice, music level, trading hours and any restrictions near restaurants, cinema or offices.
- Handover: drawings, inspection records, manuals, operator training and the spare-part list.
Indoor carousel questions buyers ask
What if the ceiling is lower than 5.5 m?
Send the clear height first. It decides the platform before anything else, and we will confirm which build fits under your beams.
Can a 24-seat carousel go inside?
Yes, where the void is tall enough. The 8 m and 8.5 m platforms still stand 5.5 m, so a two-storey atrium or a covered hall usually takes them.
Can it run on 220 V?
The standard covered platform is 380 V. A single-phase supply is possible on some models – the folding carousel runs at 220 V with 7 kW in total.
How long does installation take?
Assembly is measured in days on site, and malls usually release the atrium after closing. The programme is agreed with the quotation.
Do we need a fence indoors?
Most properties ask for one around a moving platform. The powder-coated fence is quoted with the ride rather than added later.
Where do we start?
Send the clear height, the floor plan and the power supply. The buyer’s guide lists the rest of what a quotation needs.
What should we confirm with the property first?
Confirm finished clear height, floor loading and protection, power connection, fence and escape routes, delivery access, installation hours and the documentation required for approval.
What maintenance and spares does an indoor carousel need?
Check the platform, fence, figure fixings, horse poles and electrical cabinet before opening; clean the figures and lighting regularly; and keep the wearing parts and replacement components stated in the quotation.
Next step
Send the hall or atrium, the clear height and the power supply, and tell us whether the pitch is a season or a decade. We will confirm the platform, the drive and the fence, and come back with the drawing and the band.
