What counts as a big merry go round

Size is measured on three axes rather than one. A carousel counts as big when the platform passes 10 m, when the ride stands 10 m or taller, or when it needs more than one container to move.

Below that line, un 16 or 24-seat ride still fits a park path and travels in one container. Above it the ride becomes a structure: the fence line, the base and the lifting plan all enter the quotation. If your site sits right on the line, the honest question is how many visitors the ride sees at peak – a big platform that queues badly earns less than the standard ride it replaced.

Three builds cover the range, and the single-deck option is not simply the cheaper version of the other two.

The 36-seat luxury carousel is the build to choose when the site has room to spread out. One platform, one drive, one fence line, and a base that does not need a crane. A two-level build wins where the ground is the constraint rather than the budget. On a 7.4 m ou 10 m slewing diameter it carries 38 ou 48 riders inside a fenced circle of 14 m, which is less ground than the same capacity would take on one deck. The site and the power a big carousel needs

Two of those numbers are usually underestimated. The fenced circle is 2 à 4 m larger than the platform, and it is what decides whether the ride fits the plot at all. The installed power is higher than the drive rating, because lighting and control are added to the motor on the nameplate.

How a big carousel earns: throughput and ticket price

A 36-seat platform on a three-minute cycle is 720 passagers une heure en pleine occupation, and a 48-seat platform about 960. Nobody runs full, so plan on 60 à 70% of those figures and compare the result with the visitors your gate actually delivers.

Installing a big merry go round

The sequence is the same on every platform, and the order matters more than the speed.

1. Centre base and track

   The base is fixed and levelled to the drawing, then the disc is turned by hand and checked against the rail before the motor and belt are fitted. A disc that runs true here saves days later.

2. Platform and drive

   The turntable goes onto the track with the drive assembly aligned to it, and the electrical cabinet is positioned with the cable route agreed in advance.

3. Centre pillar, roof and decoration

   The centre pillar, roof and cornice follow, with any solid boards or picture panels fixed to the frame before the roof section is closed. Lighting is wired to the voltage stated on the drawing.

4. Figures and test run

   Chevaux, carriages and the remaining figures are fitted, the ride is run through a full cycle, and the manual, spare list and inspection records are handed over.
